Salary: $111,800 – $123,500/year

What you will do

• Create realistic and believable effects including rigid body, particles, fluids, and cloth simulations using Houdini.
• Build and maintain studio-wide FX tools, setups, and best practices.
• Generate shaders, render passes, beauty renders, slap comps, and FX comps.
• Collaborate with FX Supervisors and Leads to implement technical solutions and address creative notes.
• Mentor junior and mid-level artists by providing feedback, technical guidance, and workflow support.
• Coordinate with other departments such as Lighting and Compositing to ensure project requirements are met.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of feature film/TV production experience as an FX artist.
• Must be based in British Columbia and eligible to work in Canada.
• Excellent knowledge and proven work experience in Houdini.
• Strong proficiency in VEX, Hscript, and asset management in complex pipelines.
• Solid understanding of compositing and 3D renderers like Arnold.
• Strong knowledge of common data formats such as VDB and Alembic.

Nice to have

• Python or Linux/Unix scripting experience.
• Knowledge of Maya, Gaffer, or HDK.
• Experience with additional simulation tools like Naiad, RealFlow, Bullet, or Blastcode.
• Higher education in a related field.
