Salary: $173,000 – $251,000

What you will do

• Define and evolve the strategy for primary transactional databases and analytics storage layers.
• Design and implement horizontal scaling, logical partitioning, and sharding strategies.
• Perform deep-dive database tuning covering memory management, disk I/O, and query execution plans.
• Execute low-downtime migrations for SQL environments to ensure consistent high availability.
• Build and maintain observability tooling to monitor database health and proactively identify bottlenecks.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years specifically in database engineering.
• Deep understanding of storage engines and locking mechanisms in Postgres or MySQL.
• Proven experience managing databases in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Must be able to work onsite in Oakland, CA, 3 days per week.
• Strong expertise in distributed systems and replication patterns.

Nice to have

• Practical experience with vector databases (e.g., Weaviate, Chroma, pgvector).
• Knowledge of AI/ML infrastructure and RAG implementations.
