What you will do
- Manage and grow a 5-person platform engineering team through hiring, 1-on-1s, and career development.
- Own the platform roadmap, prioritizing infrastructure stability, developer tooling, and security.
- Make high-level technical trade-off decisions regarding tech debt, build vs. buy, and database scaling.
- Partner with leadership to align platform investments with company priorities.
- Set and champion best practices for infrastructure-as-code, observability, and incident response.
- Stay hands-on with the code, including reviewing Terraform and making architectural decisions.
Requirements
- 7+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong background in platform, infrastructure, SRE, or DevOps.
- 2+ years of people-management experience leading engineering teams.
- Proven ability to manage complex technical projects with shifting priorities and cross-team dependencies.
- Experience with AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes, and CI/CD systems like GitHub Actions.
- Strong technical communication skills to advocate for platform investments to non-technical stakeholders.
- Must be able to work in a hybrid capacity in San Francisco or NYC.
Nice to have
- Previous experience leading a platform or infrastructure team.
- Experience with high-growth engineering organizations.
- Security or compliance background, including PII encryption and SOC2.
- Knowledge of TDD and distributed messaging systems.
