TL;DR

Senior Environment Artist (Game Art): Collaborating with level designers and the art director to bring locations to life for a new IP, from early research and visual development to final in-engine environments with an accent on crafting spaces that support gameplay, reinforce narrative, and create memorable player experiences. Focus on translating creative vision into detailed, optimized 3D environments that feel cohesive, intentional, and alive.

Location: Onsite in Santa Monica, California, U.S. office with an onsite work schedule of four days per week. Work arrangements may change at the company's discretion to meet business needs.

Salary: $80,800.00 - $149,400.00 Annual.

What you will do

  • Collaborate with level designers and the art director to discuss game intentions and vision.
  • Take ownership of a particular part of the game's environment.
  • Participate in the ideation of locations/levels by performing research and collecting visual references.
  • Craft compelling visual narratives that reinforce the game’s setting, story, and gameplay elements.
  • Create a variety of 3D models (architecture, foliage, props) from photo references and concept art.
  • Build (set dress, edit, optimize) realistic detailed 3D environments.

Requirements

  • Solid portfolio demonstrating focus and passion for 3D environment & prop creation.
  • Professional experience in creating Environment or Prop Art in AAA game development with at least one AAA title connected to your name.
  • Excellent artistic and design skills, including a keen eye for composition, color theory, and visual storytelling.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard 3D modeling and texturing software (e.g., Maya, 3ds Max, Blender, ZBrush, Substance Painter/Designer).
  • Experience working in Modern Game Engines with an awareness of game budgets, limits, and memory constraints.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work well in a team environment.

Nice to have

  • Experience in working in or developing procedural workflows via tools like Houdini or UPS.
  • Experience with photogrammetry or other scanning techniques & workflows.
