TL;DR

Legal Counsel (SaaS/Fintech): Managing and drafting complex commercial agreements and providing legal guidance on product development and data privacy with an accent on regulatory compliance for global e-commerce. Focus on supporting the legal department in a fast-paced environment while ensuring alignment with U.S. and international data protection standards.

Location: Must be based in the United States (Chicago office availability for hybrid work)

Salary: $100,000–$140,000

What you will do

  • Draft, negotiate, and manage a wide range of complex commercial agreements.
  • Distill complex legal matters into clear guidance for stakeholders regarding product development, marketing, and privacy.
  • Monitor and analyze legislative developments in e-commerce, consumer law, and data protection.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to resolve time-sensitive legal requests.
  • Support the compliance team with daily data privacy-related matters.
  • Develop and refine internal legal policies and templates to improve operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and active U.S. state bar license required.
  • 2–4 years of experience in contract drafting and negotiation.
  • Strong understanding of SaaS/technology commercial contracting.
  • Familiarity with global data privacy laws (CCPA, GDPR).
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent transactions under pressure.
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills.

Nice to have

  • In-house legal experience in a software or financial services company.
  • Experience with M&A transactions.
  • Background in working with global business teams.
