Software Engineer - Core Systems and Storage Roles (Multiple Individual Contributor Levels) (C/C++)

Location: Hybrid roles based in San Jose, California; Boulder, Colorado; Morrisville, North Carolina; Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania; or Bellevue, Washington, United States. Most roles include in-office and/or in-person expectations.

Salary: $120,000–$280,000 annual on-target earnings, including potential commission.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and enhance features in ONTAP and related storage systems.
• Write efficient, reliable, and maintainable C/C++ systems software.
• Analyze code paths and investigate performance bottlenecks to improve throughput, latency, scalability, and correctness.
• Debug complex system issues using logs, tracing, profiling, and system-level tools.
• Collaborate with filesystem, protocol, cloud, hardware, QA, product, and engineering teams.
• Contribute to design reviews, prototypes, feasibility studies, and technical documentation.

Requirements

• Strong proficiency in C/C++ systems-level development.
• Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, memory management, and concurrency.
• Experience with Unix/Linux systems programming.
• Experience with filesystems, storage systems, networking or protocol stacks, distributed systems, or high-availability architectures.
• Strong debugging and performance-analysis skills using tools such as gdb, perf, tracing, and profiling utilities.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with ONTAP, WAFL, storage operating systems, NFS, SMB, SAN, NVMe/TCP, or NVMe-oF.
• Experience with replication, clustering, high availability, consistency protocols, or distributed-systems design.
• Familiarity with AWS, Azure, GCP, or OCI.
• Exposure to kernel subsystems, VFS, I/O schedulers, caching, or media management.
• Knowledge of CI/CD, test automation, and modern development practices.
