What you will do
- Support students asynchronously by grading ASL expressive and receptive video assignments using rubrics and providing detailed feedback.
- Host weekly virtual group tutoring sessions to clarify curriculum concepts and assist students.
- Maintain a caseload of up to 20 students for academic advising, including quarterly check-ins and targeted support.
- Communicate effectively with students and parents regarding academic progress and support plans.
- Participate in school initiatives, contribute to academic policies, and help build a positive school culture.
- Manage availability for 40 hours per week during U.S. school hours for meetings and office hours.
Requirements
- Must have 2+ years of classroom ASL teaching experience, preferably at high school or ASL 1 level.
- Strong fluency in ASL and understanding of Deaf culture.
- Proficiency in written English communication for student and parent support.
- Ability to assess student videos using provided rubrics and work independently in a remote setting.
- Tech-savvy with ability to learn platforms like Google Classroom and gradebooks.
- Availability during U.S. time zones (ET, CT, MT, PT) school hours Monday to Friday.
Nice to have
- Teaching certification in ASL, World Languages, or Deaf Education.
- Familiarity with ACTFL standards or proficiency-based ASL instruction.
- Experience with online or hybrid instruction and tools like Zoom and LMS platforms.
- Experience with responsible use of AI tools to increase efficiency.
