What you will do

• Manage productive relationships with editors and journalists in London and Glasgow.
• Conceive, commission, and edit distinctive, agenda-setting stories for digital and print.
• Create the newslist and manage the development of stories.
• Commission exclusive video, polls, interactive graphics, and picture galleries.
• Use SEO, Inca, Pars.ly, and Google Trends to guide commissioning.
• Lead and manage the newsroom, developing talent and supporting progression.

Requirements

• Experience working as a senior editor for a national newspaper and managing a large department.
• Demonstrable expertise in Scottish current affairs and politics.
• Understanding of how audience data supports commissioning and how to promote stories on social media and through search engines.
• Ability to attract and retain new digital audiences.
• Ability to work under pressure, to tight deadlines, and with rigorous accuracy.
• Strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues.
