What you will do

• Optimize load profiles across multiple devices including thermostats, home batteries, and EVs.
• Develop and productionize algorithms and models using machine learning and statistical techniques.
• Analyze diverse datasets (e.g., temperature, energy consumption, grid emissions) to inform product and algorithm design.
• Take significant ownership of the algorithms team’s software architecture.
• Provide technical leadership in engineering groups and drive multi-week software projects independently.
• Design, implement, and maintain systems and features across the Python, PostgreSQL, Prefect, AWS/GCP stack.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a non-CS STEM degree with 6-12 years of professional software development experience.
• Significant experience (typically 4+ years) developing and evaluating algorithms and models in production environments.
• Proficiency in Python for algorithm-focused software development and strong SQL skills (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or Redshift).
• One or more of the following: energy industry knowledge, understanding of building energy systems physics, or experience with smart energy devices.
• Experience leading the design of complex, scalable software systems.
• Solid foundation in statistics, including inference, simulation, and optimization.
• Hands-on experience developing machine learning or statistical models.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future immigration sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Experience with scalable distributed data processing.
• Familiarity with serverless and cloud-native tools such as AWS Lambda or GCP Pub/Sub.
• Experience with data pipeline development using Prefect, Airflow, or similar tools.
