TL;DR
Lead Software Engineer (Developer Experience): Driving the technical roadmap and strategy for hirify.global's Build Systems team, focused on optimizing build/test times and improving CI reliability for a polyglot monorepo. Focus on architecting and implementing large-scale infrastructure on AWS and mentoring the team to accelerate engineering velocity across the engineering organization.
Location: This role can be held remotely in the United States or from hirify.global's San Francisco, CA or New York, NY hub offices. You will be required to attend in-person onboarding.
Salary: $228,000–$350,000 USD (Annual Base Salary)

What you will do
- Drive technical roadmap and strategy for the Build Systems team.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to identify developer pain points and design scalable solutions.
- Lead complex initiatives to reduce build/test times and improve CI reliability.
- Design, build, and maintain modern developer tools, scalable build systems, and distributed CI platforms.
- Architect and implement large-scale infrastructure on AWS to power the entire build pipeline.
- Mentor and uplevel the team through technical guidance and architectural leadership.
Requirements
- 8+ years of engineering experience, including 4+ years on Infrastructure, Platform, or Developer Experience teams.
- Deep expertise in build systems (e.g., Bazel, Buck, Pants, Gradle) and operating large-scale monorepos.
- Experience optimizing CI/CD, building developer tooling at scale, and designing reliable, high-performance distributed systems.
- Hands-on experience with AWS, CI platforms (e.g., Buildkite), Infrastructure as Code, and strong coding skills in languages such as Go, TypeScript, Python, or Ruby.
- Proven technical leadership, with a track record of setting technical direction and driving cross-team initiatives.
- Must be able to work from the United States and attend in-person onboarding.

- Experience migrating large codebases to modern build systems (especially Bazel).
- Experience building test frameworks and improving test infrastructure.
