Staff+ Software Engineer, Developer Productivity (AI)

TL;DR

Staff+ Software Engineer (Infrastructure): Designing and scaling end-to-end developer experience, build systems, and CI infrastructure for a high-growth AI research organization with an accent on monorepo management and developer acceleration. Location: Hybrid (London, UK). Staff are expected to be in the office at least 25% of the time.

Salary: £325,000 - £390,000 GBP

What you will do

• Own the technical strategy and roadmap for developer productivity, translating goals into execution plans.
• Define infrastructure architecture to solve complex scaling and reliability problems.
• Design and build scalable distributed infrastructure and shared libraries for high-volume workloads.
• Evolve build environments, package management, and dependency systems for fast, reproducible builds.
• Implement language ecosystem standards and frameworks to drive productivity across research and production.

Requirements

• Deep experience with build systems, CI/CD pipelines, and developer tooling in large monorepo environments.
• Strong proficiency in Python, Rust, and/or Go.
• Experience with container orchestration and infrastructure at scale.
• 15+ years of experience in a Software Engineer role building large-scale developer infrastructure.
• 3+ years of experience leading large-scale complex projects or teams as a tech lead.

Nice to have

• Experience with CI orchestration tools such as Buildkite, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions.
• Knowledge of remote build execution systems like Bazel Remote Execution API, BuildBarn, or BuildBuddy.
• Experience with Nix/NixOS/Docker and managing large image/package sets.
• Experience building CLI tools and automating GitHub API workflows.
