AMS Engineer

TL;DR

AMS Engineer: Building and optimizing application support capability for critical government services with an accent on improving stability, resilience, and operational efficiency. Focus on 2nd/3rd line technical support, incident resolution, root cause analysis, and collaboration with development and infrastructure teams.

Location: Must be eligible for SC clearance (typically requires UK residency) and willing to work rotational shifts (Monday-Saturday 08:00–20:00).

What you will do

• Provide 2nd/3rd line support for live and pre-production applications.
• Own incidents through investigation, resolution, and root cause analysis.
• Collaborate with developers and infrastructure teams on permanent fixes.
• Execute and maintain smoke tests and daily operational checks.
• Analyze logs, metrics, and monitoring data to diagnose issues.
• Support releases and deployments, including out-of-hours activity.

Requirements

• Strong experience in Application Support / AMS / Production Support.
• Proven troubleshooting experience in distributed backend systems.
• Comfortable working directly on Servers (Linux/Windows) to diagnose issues.
• Proficiency in Shell scripting and/or Node.js, Java (debugging, OO concepts), RESTful APIs, and SQL/PostgreSQL.
• Experience with Jenkins, CI/CD pipelines, and tools like Confluence, Halo/ServiceNow, Jira.
• Knowledge of application servers and ability to work under pressure in live service environments.
• SC clearance is required for access to systems.
• Ability to work 40 hours per week, Monday to Saturday, in shifts (8am-4pm, 12pm-8pm, 9am-5pm), covering one Saturday in every six.
