Location: Hybrid work in Utrecht, Netherlands (3 days in office, 2 days remote). Must be based in Utrecht, Netherlands.

What you will do

• Build and iterate on Go API endpoints and backend services, turning product ideas into reliable features.
• Own the design and evolution of public and internal APIs for speed, scalability, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with other engineers to power user experiences in the Central Portal.
• Develop and operate backend systems using PostgreSQL, PubSub, OpenFGA, and cloud-native services.
• Implement security, testing, and quality from day one for safe and dependable public services.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines and observability to accelerate issue detection and team velocity.
• Act as a senior technical reference, providing mentorship and guiding architectural decisions.

Requirements

• Senior level experience building and owning distributed systems at scale.
• Advanced knowledge of Go service development and backend best practices.
• Extensive experience integrating with and extending backend REST APIs.
• Demonstrated application of security best practices in public-facing services.
• Ability to write clear technical documentation and communicate effectively.
• Work from Utrecht office 3 days a week.

Nice to have

• Willingness to work occasionally on modern web technologies and frontend frameworks.
• Experience in a startup or fast-paced environment.
