TL;DR

Privacy & Product Counsel (AI, SaaS): Advising internal teams across the company on a broad range of product, privacy, IP- and AI-related matters, with an accent on driving process improvements and advancing compliance. Focus on embedding ethical AI standards, safeguarding data privacy, and tracking/analyzing legal and regulatory changes for product development.

Salary: $172,000 – $207,900 USD

What you will do

  • Be a trusted advisor to product managers, engineering, and security teams on product, privacy, IP, and AI-related matters, ensuring compliance and ethical AI standards.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate various privacy and technology contracts, including privacy policies, DPAs, BAAs, and licensing agreements.
  • Support commercial legal staff regarding licensing IP/AI, privacy obligations, international data transfers, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (go-to-market, support, security, etc.) to ensure business goals align with consumer protection, cybersecurity, AI, and data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA, EU AI Act).
  • Track, analyze, and provide guidance on legal and regulatory changes, identifying compliance gaps and recommending mitigation.
  • Create and update legal playbooks, revise legal templates, and mentor other legal and contract professionals.

Requirements

  • Membership in the bar in at least one U.S. State.
  • 7+ years of combined law firm/in-house B2B SaaS legal team experience.
  • 3+ years as privacy, AI, and/or product counsel with expertise in governance of privacy/AI and negotiating related addenda.
  • Experience reviewing risk assessments (DPIAs, AI Assessment), data inventories, DSARs, and data retention practices.
  • Familiarity with Privacy by Design methodologies, artificial intelligence, ethical frameworks, data governance, and open-source development.
  • Excellent writing, verbal, and organizational skills with outstanding attention to detail and ability to translate complex data into simple soundbites.

Nice to have

  • CIPP/US, CIPP/E, etc. certification.
