Lead Engineer (E-commerce)

What you will do

• Establish and lead a dedicated engineering function to maintain and enhance e-commerce web (Next.js) and mobile (React Native) platforms.
• Take ownership of the existing codebase, driving improvements in architecture, maintainability, performance, and reliability.
• Provide technical and solution architecture leadership for a multi-currency, multi-language, and dynamically responsive platform.
• Create and manage the product development vision/roadmap in partnership with Product, Design, and Technology leadership.
• Contribute code hands-on, unblock complex engineering problems, and set a high bar for quality.
• Recruit, grow, and manage the engineering team (web + mobile), including coaching and performance management.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software development experience, with 3+ years in a Head of Development, Engineering Lead, Principal Engineer, or Technical Architect role leading teams.
• Strong track record designing and developing mission-critical, customer-facing applications in production.
• Full SDLC ownership, Agile delivery experience (Scrum/Kanban), and quality-led practices.
• Deep hands-on expertise with Next.js (React) for web, including SSR/SSG/ISR, routing, and SEO implications.
• Strong experience with React Native architecture, navigation, performance optimisation, and release management for mobile.
• Proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript, modern frontend patterns, design systems, accessibility (WCAG mindset), i18n, and responsive design.
• Proven experience running production workloads on Azure, including deployment pipelines, environments, and monitoring.
