Software Engineer (Network Platforms)

Location: Hybrid; available locations are Austin, Texas; Lisbon, Portugal; and London, UK

Salary: €68,000–€91,000 annual salary for Portugal-based hires

What you will do

• Build and extend network software infrastructure for critical traffic paths across the global network.
• Develop systems spanning Linux kernel networking, network hardware dataplanes, and physical interconnects.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including system design, documentation, coding, automated testing, deployment, and production monitoring.
• Collaborate with operations and customer-facing engineering teams to align network capabilities with business needs.
• Run and maintain the systems you build, including participation in the on-call rotation.

Requirements

• Systems-level programming experience in Go, Python, Rust, C, or C++.
• Experience with Linux kernel network stack development, particularly eBPF.
• Strong understanding of BGP, internet routing, and internet protocols.
• Experience implementing, deploying, and debugging mission-critical distributed systems.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with a willingness to integrate AI tools into the engineering workflow.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with vendor switching SDKs, SR-MPLS, sFlow, BGP-LS, or PCE protocols.
• Experience writing packet-processing software with eBPF at TC or XDP, or DPDK.
• Professional experience using AI-assisted development tools.
• Experience participating in an on-call rotation.
