Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

Location: Remote US

Salary: $116,000–$183,000 USD per year, depending on US location tier.

What you will do

• Lead backend development for server-side systems, APIs, and data contracts.
• Own services end to end, including design, deployment, production operations, and reliability improvements.
• Maintain and improve cloud environments with Cloud Engineering, including monitoring and alerting using OpenTelemetry, Sentry, Prometheus, and Grafana.
• Participate in on-call and support rotations, investigate incidents, resolve production issues, manage releases, and update dependencies.
• Collaborate with frontend engineering, product, Cloud Engineering, UX, design, and support teams.
• Contribute to code reviews, security and privacy reviews, API design, and the responsible use of AI-assisted development tools.

Requirements

• 4+ years of software development experience with a strong backend focus.
• Professional experience with Python, TypeScript/Node.js, or Rust for building backend services.
• Proficiency with PostgreSQL, SQL query optimization, relational schema design, and migrations using a query builder such as Knex.
• Hands-on DevOps experience with Google Cloud Platform and Docker-based build and deployment pipelines.
• Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Sentry and Grafana.
• Experience owning services in production, participating in on-call or off-hours support, mentoring junior engineers, and improving code quality, testing, and engineering processes.

Nice to have

• Performance or load testing experience.
• Experience with Terraform and Kubernetes.
• Open-source contributions or personal engineering projects.
• Django experience.
