Staff Software Backend Engineer

Location: Remote in the United States or the United Kingdom

Base salary: $215,000–$235,000 for US remote roles; £115,000–£130,000 for UK remote roles. Equity and bonus are offered.

What you will do

• Own the architecture and technical direction of the Foundations platform team.
• Design and deliver the Platform Authorization Service, authentication, login, authorization, tenancy, SSO, access control, secrets management, and telemetry services.
• Define API contracts for platform services consumed by Delivery Platform and Application teams.
• Act as the primary technical decision maker and drive core components through general availability.
• Lead and mentor engineers through daily technical work while partnering with the Engineering Manager and Product Manager.
• Set standards for code review, testing, documentation, and engineering execution.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software development experience, including technical ownership of a platform or infrastructure area.
• 3+ years of experience in a B2B software startup or high-growth organization.
• Direct experience with authentication and authorization systems such as OAuth, SSO, or role-based access control.
• Backend programming experience in Python and Go, with strong Linux and distributed systems fundamentals.
• Experience designing APIs for other engineering teams and leading technical work without formal management authority.
• Demonstrated ability to make technical decisions under ambiguity.

Nice to have

• Experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration.
• Experience with network management or infrastructure software.
• Open-source contributions or project involvement.
• Comfort with AI-enhanced tools such as Copilot, ChatGPT, or Cursor.
