What you will do

• Lead the domain responsible for foundational customer search experience, managing and mentoring engineering managers and senior ICs across multiple squads.
• Own Tier-1 search services, ensuring global scalability, low latency, and high availability.
• Drive architectural evolution from legacy systems toward modern retrieval and indexing paradigms.
• Define and improve domain-level SLOs and SLAs, championing engineering rigor and best-in-class on-call practices.
• Shape the long-term domain vision by translating tribe-level objectives into a clear technical roadmap.
• Collaborate with Product to define long-term search strategy and coordinate cross-team initiatives within the Search and Discovery ecosystem.

Requirements

• Proven architectural excellence and deep M2 leadership experience, leading multiple squads through managers.
• Deep understanding of search internals: indexing, retrieval, query processing, ranking, vector search, caching, and distributed search architectures.
• Experience with search technologies such as Elasticsearch, Lucene, Solr, or OpenSearch.
• Track record of building and operating Tier-1, highly available distributed systems at global scale.
• Experience defining technical roadmaps, evolving architectures, and driving engineering practices using delivery metrics and operational KPIs.
• Skilled at partnering with Product to translate business priorities into feasible engineering plans and influencing across domains.
