Principal Software Development Engineer (Observability): Leading the architecture, design, and implementation of a centralized, scalable telemetry platform for global travel services with an accent on distributed systems, cost-effective data pipelines, and OpenTelemetry adoption. Focus on designing resilient infrastructure, driving engineering best practices, and mentoring teams to improve observability across a massive microservices architecture.

Location: Must be based in the United States (Seattle, WA or San Jose, CA)

Salary: $231,000 – $369,500 (Seattle) / $249,000 – $398,500 (San Jose)

What you will do

  • Lead the architecture and development of scalable, resilient telemetry pipelines for logs, metrics, and traces.
  • Spearhead the global strategy and rollout of OpenTelemetry across thousands of services.
  • Design platform governance, cost allocation, and resource management tools to optimize observability infrastructure.
  • Drive organizational adoption of observability best practices and improve developer experience via unified tooling.
  • Automate infrastructure lifecycle management using Terraform and/or Crossplane to eliminate manual toil.
  • Serve as a technical authority, mentoring senior engineers and driving consensus on high-impact architectural decisions.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering focused on large-scale distributed systems and infrastructure automation.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States (E-Verify participant).
  • Deep expertise in the pillars of observability: logs, metrics, and traces.
  • Strong proficiency in Go, Java, or Python.
  • Solid experience with cloud-native architectures including Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS.
  • Demonstrated experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or Splunk.
