TL;DR

Java Developer (Backend Dev): Developing and supporting enterprise applications using Java/JEE technologies with an accent on microservices architecture, cloud platforms, and complex problem solving. Focus on leading smaller projects, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring high-quality, maintainable code in a hybrid work environment.

Location: Hybrid in Leicester or London, United Kingdom. Must be resident in the UK with continuous residence for the last 10 years and eligible for UK government security clearance. No visa sponsorship available.

What you will do

  • Lead smaller projects from design through deployment demonstrating strong technical and project management skills.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers to foster their growth and development.
  • Contribute to defining engineering practices and the technical vision of software systems.
  • Ensure code quality, maintainability, and performance standards are met.
  • Solve complex technical challenges using expertise in Java and web technologies.

Requirements

  • Must have the right to work and reside in the UK continuously for the last 10 years.
  • Ability to obtain UK government security clearance.
  • Strong experience with Java/JEE, Spring, Hibernate, Struts, JSF, and enterprise application development.
  • Leadership experience with project delivery and team guidance.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
  • Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

  • Experience with microservices architecture.
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with test-driven development (TDD) and behavior-driven development (BDD).
  • Understanding of security principles in software development.
