Senior Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Lisbon, Portugal, or London, United Kingdom. An in-person interview may be required at a hirify.global office or hub during the offer process.

Salary: €66,000–€91,000 annual salary for Portugal-based hires; compensation may vary by work location. The role is eligible for equity.

What you will do

• Architect and ship high-throughput, resilient services that make web properties readable, discoverable, and callable for autonomous AI agents.
• Define integrations, protocols, and technical standards including MCP, MCP Apps, UCP, MPP, and WebMCP.
• Write architectural specifications and technical designs that guide engineering work across multiple teams.
• Partner with product management, customers, and stakeholders to translate needs into technical requirements, KPIs, and roadmaps.
• Lead incident response, post-incident reviews, observability improvements, and system rearchitecture to eliminate recurring failures.
• Provide technical mentorship, code reviews, architectural governance, and support for engineering hiring.

Requirements

• Experience designing scalable distributed systems and setting performance metrics in high-scale environments.
• Track record of writing comprehensive technical specifications and leading cross-functional engineering initiatives.
• Deep knowledge of HTTP, APIs, proxies, caching, web security, and performance across multi-service architectures.
• Hands-on experience with AI agents, tool calling, Model Context Protocol, or agent harnesses.
• Experience mentoring junior and mid-level engineers, contributing to hiring, and improving incident response workflows.
• Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement in Lisbon or London.

Nice to have

• Fluency in async Rust or TypeScript/JavaScript edge runtimes such as hirify.global Workers.
• Contributions to open-source agent frameworks, protocols, web standards, browser engines, or network proxies.
• Experience with complex production incidents, search engines, AEO, web crawling, RAG platforms, cryptography, or privacy-preserving web architectures.
