TL;DR
Controls Engineer II (PLC/Automation): Designing, deploying, and commissioning PLC-based control systems and graphical interfaces for material handling automation with an accent on Rockwell and Siemens programming, control networks, and system testing. Focus on troubleshooting during on-site commissioning, validating complex control software, and improving productivity, cost efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
Location: United States. Hybrid work is available in Atlanta, Georgia; Irving, Texas; and Charlotte, North Carolina, with three office days per week. Employees outside these areas work remotely. Travel of up to 40% annually, including short-term 10/4 assignments, is required.

What you will do
- Design and deploy control systems for material handling applications, including PLC programming, commissioning, and graphical user interfaces.
- Validate and emulate code before deployment, then troubleshoot PLC and electrical system functionality during on-site commissioning.
- Collaborate with Electrical Engineering to define device requirements and design control network architecture.
- Review customer standards, specifications, and documentation to determine system requirements.
- Support cost and resource estimates, project budget alignment, and schedule management for module development and commissioning.
- Execute module-, subsystem-, and system-level testing and recommend improvements that reduce costs and increase productivity.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field, with five years of relevant experience; alternatively, three years of relevant experience with a master’s degree.
- Experience programming Rockwell Automation PLCs, including GuardLogix, and Siemens TIA Portal, including Starter.
- Experience with Ethernet/IP network architecture, electrical schematics, and HMI programming.
- Ability to collaborate with project management, engineering teams, installation crews, and external partners.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and an understanding of project financial tracking and schedule management.
- Must be legally authorized to work full-time in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available.
