Lead Backend Engineer (Python/Node.js)

Location: Munich, Germany; 3 days in the office and 2 days remote, with remote work available within the EU

What you will do

• Define and evolve scalable, secure backend architecture aligned with product strategy.
• Own backend projects from concept through delivery and ongoing operation.
• Make system design and performance decisions for high-throughput, increasingly complex platforms.
• Lead improvements in monitoring, observability, CI pipelines, and developer workflows.
• Embed security and compliance best practices into backend systems.
• Mentor backend engineers and provide technical direction across the team.

Requirements

• Strong backend development experience with Python, C++, Node.js, and frameworks such as NestJS, Flask, Fastify, or FastAPI.
• Hands-on AWS experience with RDS, DynamoDB, S3, Lambda, EC2, and SQS.
• Experience with Terraform or comparable infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Production experience with high-throughput systems, microservices, cloud security, networking, and observability.
• Strong English communication skills at C1+ level; German is not required.
• Availability for a hybrid setup in Munich, with three office days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with Kubernetes, GitLab CI/CD, BullMQ, Prisma, Vue.js, Turbo, pnpm, or Storybook.
• Experience in agile, fast-growing technology environments.
