Staff Software Engineer, Backend Engineering

Location: United States hub cities, including New York, San Francisco/Bay Area, Seattle, Boston, Washington, DC, and Chicago. Flexible hybrid work: New York City employees work onsite three days per week, while employees in Boston, DC, Chicago, Seattle, and San Francisco attend monthly Work Together Days.

Salary: $225,000–$260,000 per year, plus potential bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Drive the technical vision and roadmap for platform and product engineering teams.
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, performant, and reliable backend systems.
• Design and implement cloud-based solutions, including infrastructure as code and serverless architectures.
• Lead technical design discussions and guide architecture, coding standards, and engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver new products and features.
• Mentor engineers and evaluate technologies that improve engineering effectiveness.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 8 years of backend development and platform architecture experience.
• Experience designing complex distributed systems with microservices, containerization, and orchestration.
• Strong cloud engineering experience with AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or another cloud platform.
• Proficiency in multiple programming languages, such as Java, Python, and Go.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, technical leadership, problem-solving, collaboration, and mentoring.
