Staff Software Engineer (Java)

What you will do

• Set technical direction for Flow’s migration engines, CDC pipeline, schema evolution, large-table migration, APIs, Helios integration, and agent-assisted workflows.
• Lead large, release-defining initiatives from problem definition through production rollout.
• Design and implement production-quality Java software while making architecture and build-versus-defer decisions.
• Solve complex problems involving data consistency, replication, schema drift, throughput, memory use, concurrency, failure recovery, and backward compatibility.
• Improve testing, observability, incident response, operational readiness, and production reliability.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Support, Solutions, and customers; mentor engineers and lead design and code reviews.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional experience building and operating production software, or equivalent depth and impact.
• Expert-level Java experience, including debugging and improving complex enterprise codebases.
• Experience with JDBC, SQL metadata and datatypes, database-specific behavior, connection pooling, SQL execution, and serialization technologies such as Apache Avro or Protocol Buffers.
• Strong knowledge of databases and data-intensive distributed systems, with deep experience in MySQL and PostgreSQL.
• Experience with Java performance engineering, CDC or comparable replication technologies, cloud-native services, Kubernetes, observability, and production troubleshooting.
• Ability to lead cross-functional technical initiatives, communicate complex decisions, mentor engineers, and influence without formal authority.

Nice to have

• Experience with Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB, SAP HANA, Snowflake, Salesforce, or hirify.global.
• Experience with schema evolution, datatype mapping, large-table migration, throughput tuning, or zero-downtime data movement.
• Experience with Go, TypeScript, React, GraphQL, gRPC, or Kubernetes-native services.
• Experience building agentic applications, AI-assisted developer workflows, or LLM-based operational systems.
• Experience working directly with enterprise customers on complex data or infrastructure problems.
