Senior Software Engineer, Backend Engineering

Location: US-based hybrid role. Primary hubs include New York Metropolitan Area, San Francisco/Bay Area, Seattle, Boston, Washington, DC, and Chicago. New York City employees work onsite three days per week; employees in Boston, Washington, DC, Chicago, Seattle, and San Francisco attend monthly Work Together Days.

Salary: $195,000–$230,000 per year, plus potential bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of scalable, performant, and reliable backend and platform systems.
• Design and implement cloud-based solutions, including infrastructure as code and serverless architectures.
• Lead technical design discussions and guide engineering practices, coding standards, and architecture decisions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver customer-focused products and features.
• Mentor mid-level and junior engineers and support continuous technical learning.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and tools that improve engineering efficiency and system capabilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 5 years of backend development and platform architecture experience.
• Experience designing complex distributed systems with microservices, containerization, and orchestration.
• Strong experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure, including infrastructure as code and serverless architectures.
• Proficiency in multiple programming languages, such as Java, Python, or Go, and experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, collaboration, technical leadership, and mentoring skills.
