Linux Systems Engineer

TL;DR

Linux Systems Engineer: Responsible for architecting, troubleshooting, and supporting public-facing Linux services within various hosting environments, with an accent on database technologies. Focus on managing disaster recovery, migrating applications off legacy environments, and responding to critical off-hour requests.

Location: This is a full-time, permanent and in-office position based in Rockstar’s unique game development studio in the heart of Dundee, Scotland.

What you will do

• Work closely with development teams to develop, deploy, and support applications.
• Architect solutions for new and existing projects.
• Utilize configuration management and custom scripts to deploy and manage systems.
• Ensure all critical systems and services are properly monitored with relevant alerts enabled.
• Manage disaster recovery and refine ongoing backup policies.
• Migrate applications off legacy environments with minimal downtime.

Requirements

• 5 years of systems engineering experience in large-scale environments.
• Mastery of Linux (RHEL/Centos preferred) support experience in large-scale environments.
• Advanced knowledge of web architecture and related applications (Apache, Nginx, Python, MySQL, Postgres, MongoDB, Postfix, CDN integrations).
• Experience managing data warehouse platforms & tooling: Hadoop, Kafka, Cassandra.
• Advanced knowledge and experience creating, maintaining, and debugging shell scripts.
• Configuration management experience with puppet, chef, or ansible.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Experience configuring and maintaining AD/Linux integration.
• Games industry experience.
