Manager, Software Engineering (AI)

Location: Lehi, Utah, United States; Remote - US

Compensation: $170,000–$190,000 annually, including on-target earnings.

What you will do

• Lead planning and execution for shared AI capabilities, balancing feature delivery with reliability, performance, cost efficiency, and operational excellence.
• Partner with Product, Architecture, Design, and engineering leaders to translate customer needs and emerging AI technologies into scalable, secure product capabilities.
• Guide AI architecture, model selection, prompt engineering, RAG, evaluation, testing, monitoring, and regression testing.
• Evaluate technical designs involving C#/.NET, microservices, containerization, and AWS or Azure.
• Lead, coach, hire, and develop software engineers while promoting ownership, experimentation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Communicate technical decisions, risks, tradeoffs, and business outcomes across senior stakeholders.

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years managing engineering teams.
• Experience delivering production-grade AI or LLM-powered features in an enterprise SaaS environment.
• Strong knowledge of LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, context limitations, latency, cost considerations, and common failure modes.
• Familiarity with AI evaluation methodologies, retrieval systems, model accuracy, reliability, and performance measurement.
• Understanding of AI agent architectures, tool-calling patterns, and Model Context Protocol (MCP).
• Strong foundation in distributed systems, microservices, cloud-native architectures, CI/CD, containerization, and observability.
• Experience with AWS or Azure and working knowledge of C#/.NET or similar backend technologies.
• Ability to lead engineering teams, manage competing priorities, deliver complex initiatives, and influence technical and business decisions.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• AI experience in legal technology, document management, or another regulated industry.
• Experience with document AI, intelligent document processing, retrieval systems, shared AI services, or platform capabilities used across multiple products.
• Experience evaluating AI model providers, optimizing costs, selecting vendors, and assessing fine-tuning value.
• Success building high-performing engineering teams and an advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
