EN/ESLA Interpreter/Translator (Detention & Removal Defense)

Location: Edison, New Jersey; hybrid work option available after completion of a 90-day assessment period. The role includes accompanying legal staff to ICE detention centers and immigration courts.

Salary: starts at $70,000 on the 2026 salary scale, commensurate with skill, knowledge, and experience.

What you will do

• Provide accurate, complete, and confidential bilingual oral and written interpretation and translation for legal staff and clients.
• Accompany legal staff to ICE detention centers and immigration courts and interpret for staff and clients.
• Translate legal education materials for the community, including materials requiring strong Spanish writing skills.
• Translate documents from Spanish-speaking countries, including medical records, birth certificates, and custody agreements.

Requirements

• Exceptional verbal and written communication and translation skills in English and Spanish.
• Degree in translation or graduate coursework in written Spanish.
• Strong Spanish language proficiency is highly preferred.
• Ability to provide accurate and confidential interpretation and translation support in legal settings.

Nice to have

• Experience proofreading Spanish texts.
• Familiarity with CAT tools and desktop publishing.
• Comprehensive understanding of Spanish legal terminology.
• Familiarity with legal procedures in the United States and Spanish-speaking countries.
• Strong Spanish writing skills or strong English writing skills for legal document translation.
