Electrical Staff Engineer II

Location: US-TX-Austin, United States. Occasional travel may be required, up to 10%.

What you will do

• Develop electrical engineering deliverables for MV and HV substations serving utility, renewable energy, BESS, data center, and industrial applications.
• Prepare substation electrical design documents, including single-line and three-line diagrams, layouts, auxiliary power systems, grounding and lightning protection, cable routing, equipment specifications, calculations, and control and protection interface documentation.
• Support electrical calculations and studies, including load calculations, short-circuit assessments, equipment duty evaluations, and grounding studies.
• Develop design packages through conceptual, preliminary, 30%, 60%, 90%, IFC, and as-built stages.
• Coordinate interfaces with P&C, SCADA, civil, structural, and transmission line engineering teams.
• Review EPC, consultant, and vendor engineering documents; support procurement documentation, technical bid evaluations, and project delivery within scope, schedule, budget, and quality requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of three years of related experience.
• Experience preparing or supporting electrical engineering deliverables for utility, industrial, renewable energy, or other power infrastructure projects.
• Understanding of substation electrical equipment, electrical design principles, and engineering documentation.
• Familiarity with substation voltage levels from 4.16 kV through 500 kV or higher.
• Basic knowledge of applicable IEEE, IEC, NESC, NEC, NEMA, NFPA, and relevant utility standards.
• Experience with electrical engineering tools such as ETAP, SKM PowerTools, EasyPower, AutoCAD, and applicable grounding analysis software.
• Ability to manage assigned tasks, coordinate with team members, and meet project deadlines.
• Willingness to learn new engineering tools, standards, and design practices.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, documentation, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
