Solutions Architect (Digital Sovereignty)

Location: Germany, remote or from a Databricks office anywhere in Germany. Travel within Germany is required for customer and partner meetings.

What you will do

• Act as the technical lead and trusted advisor for digital sovereignty with strategic and regulated customers across Germany, from CIO/CISO discussions through production.
• Design and validate sovereign reference architectures, run end-to-end proofs of concept and pilots, and provide go/no-go recommendations based on performance, scalability, security, and connectivity testing.
• Collaborate with sovereign cloud and storage partners on solution design, technical enablement, co-selling, and customer workshops.
• Explain sovereignty topics including CLOUD Act, GDPR, NIS2, DORA, BSI C5, EU Data Act, open formats, and exit strategies.
• Build repeatable architectures, demos, PoC playbooks, Terraform templates, automation, and customer-facing materials in German and English.
• Feed requirements to Product and Engineering, collaborate with Legal, Security, and Compliance, and build market visibility through workshops, webinars, meetups, and conference talks.

Requirements

• Fluent German and business-level English are required and used daily with customers, partners, and internal teams.
• Substantial experience in technical pre-sales, solution architecture, or consulting, including complex enterprise customer interactions across the full sales lifecycle.
• Hands-on experience with data platforms in at least one major public cloud: Azure, AWS, or GCP; Apache Spark and/or Databricks experience is relevant.
• Strong knowledge of cloud infrastructure, including networking, private connectivity, VPNs, private endpoints, identity and access management, encryption, and BYOK/HYOK key management.
• Experience with object storage, S3-compatible storage such as MinIO, open table formats including Delta Lake or Apache Iceberg, and secure data sharing patterns.
• Working knowledge of the German and EU regulatory and sovereignty landscape, including GDPR, CLOUD Act implications, NIS2, DORA, BSI C5, and KRITIS.
• Ability to lead technical and business discussions with C-level executives, coordinate cross-functional and partner teams, and influence long-term customer outcomes.
• Hands-on coding ability in Python and SQL; daily fluent use of AI tools and the ability to build credible working prototypes with AI assistance.
• Judgment to prioritize use cases and investments, navigate competition, and recognize where AI-generated prototype output requires further review.

Nice to have

• Infrastructure-as-code experience, such as Terraform.
• Experience with European or sovereign cloud providers, the public sector, or regulated industries.
