Scientific Data Architect (AI/ML)

Location: Hybrid role based in St. Louis, Missouri, or Chicago, Illinois, United States; requires onsite customer engagement and travel to local client sites 3–4 days per week.

Salary: $140,000–$240,000 per year.

What you will do

• Engage directly with customer scientists and technical stakeholders to understand scientific data challenges, build relationships, and accelerate solution adoption.
• Design and implement extensible, reusable data models for scalable scientific use cases.
• Translate scientific workflows into solutions on the Tetra Data Platform, including Python pipelines, lab software integrations through APIs, data visualizations, applications, and scientific agents.
• Collaborate with Scientific Business Analysts, customer scientists, applied AI engineers, and product teams to develop and deploy ML, AI, mechanistic, statistical, and hybrid models and agents.
• Prototype solutions, deliver regular demos, communicate implementation progress, and contribute to roadmap prioritization.
• Use agentic development tools such as Claude Code and Codex while rapidly learning and troubleshooting new technologies.

Requirements

• PhD plus 4+ years, Master’s plus 6+ years, or Bachelor’s plus 8+ years of industry experience in life sciences.
• Extensive domain knowledge in drug discovery, preclinical development, CMC across drug modalities, product quality testing, or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
• Proven experience defining, designing, prototyping, and implementing productized AI/ML-driven use cases in cloud environments.
• Experience designing scalable and reusable data architectures and performing exploratory data analysis and workflow optimization.
• Experience collaborating with product managers, software engineers, scientists, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
• Excellent communication and storytelling skills for engaging scientists, business leaders, and executive stakeholders.
• Experience advising scientists in a consulting capacity to improve research, development, and quality testing outcomes.
• Experience augmenting technical, business, and communication work through agentic development and knowledge work.
• Ability to travel to client sites in local geographic areas 3–4 days per week.
