Enterprise AI and Data Architect

Location: Fully remote within the United States, excluding Hawaii and Alaska; preference for Eastern or Central time zones.

Annual base salary: $173,000–$193,000 USD.

What you will do

• Own the enterprise target architecture, reference architectures, standards, decision records, and principles for data and AI across seven business units.
• Shape an agentic AI platform covering model access, context management, orchestration, retrieval, evaluations, guardrails, identity, telemetry, and multi-tenancy for 130,000+ businesses.
• Define Snowflake data standards, semantic layers, governed metrics, data contracts, quality rules, lineage, retention, deletion, and business-unit domain model boundaries.
• Embed AI-assisted development standards into repositories and CI, including policy as code, fitness functions, code scans, evaluation gates, MCP patterns, and risk-based human review.
• Design security, privacy, cost controls, observability, reliability, data residency, tenant isolation, and contractual data-use protections for AI and data platforms.
• Lead governance councils, vendor evaluations, executive trade-off discussions, architect communities, mentoring, and potential growth of a 2–3-person architecture team.

Requirements

• 15+ years in software, data, AI, or platform engineering, including at least 7 years as an enterprise or principal architect.
• Production experience taking LLM or agentic systems to scale, including orchestration, retrieval, evaluations, guardrails, model routing, and observability.
• Deep enterprise data architecture experience, ideally with Snowflake, including semantic layers, governed metrics, data modelling, entity resolution, data quality, and lineage.
• Experience designing multi-tenant SaaS platforms with strict tenant isolation and identity propagation.
• Experience with regulated data and compliance-by-design, plus architecture across multiple products or business units and mixed modern and legacy technology.
• Ability to write production code, conduct respected code reviews, establish effective architecture governance, and manage AI workload costs including token budgets, cost per task, and FinOps.
• Ability to explain technical trade-offs to executives and the board in clear business terms.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Production experience with Model Context Protocol, agent frameworks, or an LLM gateway.
• Experience leading AI platform build-versus-buy decisions, including contract, intellectual property, and exit terms.
• Vertical SaaS background, Datadog or similar AI observability tools, and OpenTelemetry.
• Familiarity with NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 42001, the EU AI Act, and data residency and privacy rules across Australia, New Zealand, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union.
• Experience modernising legacy monoliths and wrapping them with APIs for agent access.
