Senior Software Engineer - Front End (React)

Location: Remote (US)

Salary: $90,000–$140,000 per year

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable, accessible, high-performing web applications using React and JavaScript.
• Own complex engineering work from technical design and implementation through deployment and maintenance.
• Develop reusable components and contribute to front-end architecture, coding standards, technical design, code reviews, and engineering planning.
• Integrate front-end applications with RESTful APIs and backend services in collaboration with backend engineers.
• Build automated testing solutions, support CI/CD workflows, and troubleshoot performance, reliability, and maintainability issues.
• Collaborate with designers, product managers, engineers, clients, and stakeholders; mentor junior engineers and communicate technical decisions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of professional software engineering experience; relevant years of experience may substitute for education.
• Expert-level React and JavaScript proficiency with experience developing and maintaining production web applications.
• Strong understanding of modern front-end architecture, component-based development, application state management, and software engineering best practices.
• Experience integrating front-end applications with RESTful APIs and backend services.
• Working knowledge of GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD tooling.
• Experience with automated front-end testing frameworks such as Cypress and Playwright.
• Experience with version control, code reviews, debugging, and testing.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment.
• Ability to independently own technical deliverables, solve complex problems, and communicate effectively with technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience working with the Department of Veterans Affairs or VA.gov.
• Exposure to backend technologies and frameworks, particularly Ruby on Rails.
• Experience developing accessible applications in accordance with Section 508 and WCAG standards.
• Experience with design systems and reusable UI component libraries.
• Experience modernizing or maintaining large-scale government digital services.
• Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to team-wide technical improvements.
