Frontend Lead Software Engineer (React)

Location: Remote; listed locations include New York, United States and London, United Kingdom. Work from anywhere is available for up to 8 weeks per year.

Base compensation: $118,400–$219,800 USD annually for eligible US locations, with potential annual bonus eligibility.

What you will do

• Set architectural direction for Reuters’ front-end platform, balancing user experience, performance, and complexity.
• Lead solution design reviews and establish engineering standards and best practices.
• Mentor senior and junior engineers and unblock complex front-end technical problems.
• Partner with Quality Engineering to introduce shift-left testing and build automated quality gates into CI/CD pipelines.
• Root-cause production issues, reduce technical debt, and participate in a DevOps on-call rotation.
• Evaluate AI-assisted tools for code generation, code review, and test generation.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience building highly scalable, customer-facing front-end applications, including experience leading engineering teams.
• Advanced TypeScript and modern JavaScript; expert React, HTML5, and CSS3.
• Advanced RESTful API knowledge and intermediate-to-advanced AWS experience.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and automated testing frameworks including Jest, React Testing Library, and Playwright.
• Knowledge of performance optimization and security best practices.
• Technical leadership and mentorship, including guiding senior and junior engineers and setting team standards.
• Ability to communicate technical solutions and tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Independent judgment under ambiguity and strong production problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

• Next.js or other SSR/SSG frameworks.
• GraphQL and microfrontends architecture.
• Familiarity with AngularJS, Tailwind, Java with Spring Boot, TypeScript with AWS Lambda, MongoDB, Amazon Aurora, AWS Elemental Services, and video technologies.
