Senior Network Operations Engineer

Location: Bristol, UK; occasional travel to remote data centres and offices is required for installations, troubleshooting, and hands-on support.

What you will do

• Shape operational requirements and prepare new and existing network services for reliable operation.
• Own complex network incidents through resolution as a senior escalation point.
• Troubleshoot routing, firewalls, Wi-Fi, connectivity, and performance issues using monitoring evidence, packet captures, and logs.
• Improve monitoring, automate routine operations, and manage network configurations.
• Create practical runbooks, recovery procedures, documentation, and clear operational handovers.
• Support testing, controlled changes, upgrades, deployments, and hands-on work at remote data centres and offices.

Requirements

• At least five years of hands-on network engineering experience focused on production support, plus certification in a major networking platform.
• Strong practical knowledge of large-scale L2/L3 networks, including BGP, OSPF, switching, routing, and resilience.
• Experience supporting centrally controlled Wi-Fi such as Cisco Meraki or Aruba, including connectivity and performance troubleshooting.
• Experience managing and troubleshooting centralised firewalls, including rulesets, NAT, and VPNs, plus familiarity with open-source products such as pfSense.
• Hands-on experience with Ansible, Python, or similar tools for automating operations and managing network configurations.
• Evidence-led troubleshooting using monitoring, packet captures, and logs, with clear communication, documentation, and sound judgement during incidents.

Nice to have

• AWS networking experience.
• Cisco Software-Defined Access or SD-WAN experience.
