BI Data Engineer (Brussels)

Location: Brussels, Belgium, with hybrid work requiring on-site attendance at Brussels offices and remote work; candidates should live in Portugal.

What you will do

• Create and maintain enterprise data warehouses, data lakes, lakehouses, BI architectures, and data virtualization layers across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments.
• Gather business requirements and design data models, ETL/ELT pipelines, orchestration workflows, data contracts, and schema evolution processes.
• Build dashboards, KPIs, reports, analytics applications, curated datasets, and self-service BI capabilities for business stakeholders.
• Optimize database schemas, queries, storage, partitioning, caching, clustering, resource utilization, cost, latency, and throughput.
• Implement data quality, observability, lineage, health monitoring, testing, CI/CD, deployment, infrastructure-as-code, and environment management practices.
• Govern semantic layers, access controls, data security, documentation, stewardship, GDPR compliance, and audit readiness.

Requirements

• Experience with enterprise data warehouse architecture, dimensional modelling, and star or snowflake schemas.
• Knowledge of data lake and lakehouse patterns, including Delta Lake and Apache Iceberg.
• Excellent knowledge of relational databases and SQL; knowledge of non-relational databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra, or Hadoop HBase.
• Knowledge of BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik, and ETL/ELT tools such as Informatica, Talend, dbt, or Azure Data Factory.
• Knowledge of data modelling tools, OLAP technologies, data mining tools, near real-time ingestion, and change data capture technologies.
• Knowledge of cloud BI architectures such as Azure Synapse, Snowflake, or AWS Redshift.
• Knowledge of data governance, cataloguing, data observability, freshness, lineage, and anomaly detection practices.
• English at C1 level.

• Microsoft Data Analyst Associate, Microsoft Azure Data Engineer Associate, Amazon Certified Data Analytics Specialty, or an equivalent certification.
