Data Engineer (Azure Databricks) in the EU

Location: Remote, office-based, or hybrid work in the listed European countries: Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and The Netherlands.

Salary: EUR 2,800–4,550 gross per month. Final compensation depends on experience, location, and professional growth.

What you will do

• Build and maintain multi-layer Landing, Raw, Enriched, and Curated data pipelines on Azure Databricks using Spark and Delta Lake.
• Orchestrate Databricks Jobs and Workflows with dependencies, retries, alerts, and failure handling.
• Implement batch and API-based ingestion, schema enforcement, schema-drift handling, and ingestion-time data quality checks.
• Use dbt for pipeline observability, data governance, modular models, tests, and documentation.
• Monitor job failures, data freshness, pipeline health, and SLA-based delivery targets.
• Maintain controlled Dev, Test, and Prod environments, including access control, audit trails, logging, documentation, and traceability.

Requirements

• 4+ years of commercial Data Engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with Azure Databricks, Spark, Delta Lake, dbt, and multi-layer data pipelines.
• Experience with Databricks Jobs or Workflows, batch and API-based ingestion, schema management, data quality checks, alerting, logging, and retry strategies.
• Experience with access control models, data contracts, audit trails, data lineage, segregation of duties, and traceability between requirements and implemented solutions.
• Experience working across controlled Dev, Test, and Prod environments and delivering against defined SLAs.
• English: Upper-Intermediate or above required.

Nice to have

• Experience with Azure ecosystem integrations, SAP S/4HANA, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Git-based CI/CD, and DevOps practices.
• Experience with MLOps and AI pipelines on Databricks.
• Experience in regulated domains such as GxP, clinical trials, pharmacovigilance, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology industries.
• Knowledge of dimensional modeling, star schemas, One Big Table approaches, curated data marts, Tabular Editor, and metadata-as-code.
• Experience with Power BI dataset design, performance optimization, and KPI and semantic consistency.
