Manager Database Administrator (AWS)

Location: Remote, United States of America

Annual full-time base salary: $150,000–$175,000.

What you will do

• Lead and mentor the Database Administration team while setting strategic direction aligned with business needs.
• Design, implement, maintain, and optimize AWS RDS and EC2 databases for availability, scalability, performance, and security.
• Define database policies, procedures, standards, encryption protocols, and BYOK architectures.
• Collaborate with application development, project, business, DevOps, and SRE teams across design, testing, deployment, and operational support.
• Lead database modernization, upgrades, migrations, backup and recovery planning, capacity management, and troubleshooting.
• Manage vendor relationships and evaluate database technologies and tools.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
• Minimum 12+ years of database administration experience, including typically 2+ years in a VP-level role or equivalent, and at least 5 years in a leadership role.
• 3–5 years of experience with Amazon RDS and EC2 databases, cloud infrastructure, and AWS services.
• Strong knowledge of database design, performance tuning, optimization, SQL, database management tools, and application database environments from ideation through implementation.
• Direct experience setting up and supporting SQL Server and MySQL Server in multi-node cluster environments.
• Excellent knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, integrity, and T-SQL.
• Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and judgment skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment and support planned and unplanned events.
• Commitment to mentoring, training, and leading staff, with strong dedication and teamwork.

Nice to have

• Relevant certifications, such as AWS Certified Database – Specialty.
