Int Database Reliability Engineer (DBRE)

Location: Remote or Mississauga, with required travel to the Mississauga and/or Salt Lake City offices for onboarding, team events, and semi-annual or annual meetings.

Salary: CAD 103,400–129,300 per year

What you will do

• Manage, build, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot cloud-based database infrastructure supporting a mission-critical SaaS application.
• Improve observability of database metrics and ensure database objectives for performance and availability are met.
• Identify operational toil with the DBA team and implement automation and processes to manage database systems at scale.
• Support Engineering and SRE teams with database migrations, query performance, and schema and design improvements.
• Perform operational workload management, performance troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
• Standardize database configurations, deployment patterns, and operational processes across SQL Server and PostgreSQL; manage tickets, incidents, service requests, and maintenance activities.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience with relational database systems, including at least 1 year in a Database, SRE, or Engineering-related role.
• Hands-on SQL Server or PostgreSQL administration experience, including performance tuning, replication, high availability, and disaster recovery.
• Cloud experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure; Azure is preferred.
• Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Ansible and Terraform.
• Coding and automation experience with PowerShell, C#, SQL, Python, or Go.
• Experience with source control systems such as Git.
• University or college education in Database Management, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Some on-call or after-hours work is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with databases of 1+ TB and large database environments.
• Experience with Jira, Confluence, Grafana, ClickHouse, and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with AI tools, technologies, or AI-assisted development and automation.
• Experience with DBMS other than SQL Server or PostgreSQL.
