Database Platform Engineer (Oracle/SQL Server)

Location: Hybrid role in Auckland, New Zealand; participation in a 24/7 on-call roster is required.

Salary: NZD 87,000–118,000, dependent on skills and experience.

What you will do

• Deliver, operate, and continuously improve enterprise database platforms across on-premises and cloud environments.
• Support business-critical Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and Amazon RDS database services.
• Maintain secure, reliable, scalable, and high-performing platforms through upgrades, tuning, backup and recovery, and high-availability practices.
• Automate operational processes and contribute to platform engineering, service improvement, and technology modernisation initiatives.
• Collaborate with cloud, infrastructure, security, application, and project teams to deliver robust database platform services.
• Participate in the 24/7 on-call roster supporting production environments.

Requirements

• Proven experience in database administration, database engineering, or database platform operations in production environments.
• Strong technical knowledge of Oracle Database and/or Microsoft SQL Server.
• Experience with database installation, maintenance, upgrades, performance tuning, backup and recovery, and high-availability environments.
• Knowledge of database security, patch management, access controls, and vulnerability remediation.
• Experience with scripting, automation, or platform engineering practices.
• Proactive mindset, strong analytical capability, and ability to work across multiple technologies and stakeholders.
• Availability to work in a hybrid arrangement in Auckland, New Zealand and participate in a 24/7 on-call roster.

Nice to have

• Exposure to cloud database technologies such as Amazon RDS and hybrid cloud environments.
