Assistant Professor (Social Work)

Location: Prairie View, Texas, United States; full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position with on-campus teaching responsibilities

Prairie View A&M University’s Department of Social Work offers CSWE-accredited BASW and MSW programs within the College of Public Affairs and Societal Impact.

What you will do

• Teach four courses, totaling 12 credit semester hours, each semester across the BASW and MSW curricula.
• Support students and provide student advisement while contributing to quality social work education.
• Participate in curriculum and program development and serve on university, college, and department committees.
• Conduct impactful research, publish scholarly work, present findings, and pursue grant funding.
• Support student recruitment and provide service to the community and the social work profession.

Requirements

• Doctorate (PhD or DSW) in Social Work or a closely related field; ABD candidates may be considered, but the doctorate must be received by the appointment date.
• MSW degree from a CSWE-accredited program.
• At least two years of post-MSW social work practice experience, including at least three years of direct clinical practice.
• Online teaching experience and student advisement experience.
• Commitment to generalist social work, education, and knowledge building.
• Commitment to social justice and experience working with culturally and linguistically varied populations.
• Publication record appropriate for appointment as an assistant professor and evidence of ongoing research projects.
• Strong collegial, communication, and collaborative teamwork skills, with a relational approach to working with students and colleagues.

Nice to have

• Ability to teach across the MSW and BSW curriculum.
• Interest and knowledge in the social work accreditation process.
• Interest in medical and behavioral areas of social practice.
• Record of extramural funding and effective graduate-level teaching.
• Knowledge of national accrediting bodies and professional standards, including CSWE accreditation processes.
