Assistant Professor - Wildlife Biology

Location: Commerce, Texas, United States. Full-time, 9-month tenure-track faculty position with an expected start date of September 1, 2027.

What you will do

• Establish and maintain an independent research agenda in vertebrate ecology using significant field components and modern laboratory techniques.
• Develop an externally funded research program involving undergraduate and graduate students, producing peer-reviewed publications and presentations.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses including comparative vertebrate physiology, mammalogy, and wildlife habitat ecology and management.
• Mentor students, advise the Wildlife Biology Society, serve on graduate thesis committees, and provide academic advising.
• Use innovative teaching methods across in-person, online, and blended learning formats.
• Contribute to departmental programs, university governance, professional activities, recruitment, outreach, and community engagement.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in wildlife biology, conservation ecology, or a closely related field.
• Research focus including significant field components and modern laboratory techniques.
• Proven record of independent research with strong potential to secure external funding and publish high-quality research papers.
• Effective communication and organizational skills.
• Strong commitment to establishing and supporting undergraduate and graduate teaching and research programs.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively as part of a team.

Nice to have

• Postdoctoral experience in wildlife ecology or wildlife conservation.
• Experience teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
• Strong potential for securing external funding.
• Effective communication and organizational skills.
