Director of Engineering, Infrastructure & Technical Strategy (GIPHY)

Location: Dublin, Ireland

Salary: €140,000–€160,000 per year in Dublin

What you will do

• Own GIPHY’s infrastructure and technical strategy, focusing on scalability, reliability, maintainability, and cost.
• Monitor infrastructure spend, utilization, capacity, and commitments; identify optimization opportunities.
• Manage AWS and other infrastructure, observability, search, AI, and IT vendor relationships, including contracts, renewals, evaluations, and spend requests.
• Partner with SRE and engineering leadership on reliability, incident response, operational readiness, security risk, and external IT support.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and vendors through prototypes and technical due diligence.
• Align Product, Engineering, BD, leadership, and external partners on scale, integrations, priorities, and technical tradeoffs.

Requirements

• 10+ years of engineering experience, including 5+ years of leadership and people-management experience leading engineering teams.
• Engineering leadership experience in infrastructure, platform, distributed systems, search, AI, or large-scale consumer technology.
• Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure, reliability, observability, capacity planning, and cost optimization.
• Experience managing strategic technology vendors and contracts.
• Strong executive and cross-functional communication skills.
• Ability to evaluate unfamiliar technologies and make pragmatic build, buy, adopt, or defer decisions.
• Collaborative, low-ego leadership style with strong judgment and accountability.
