Software Development Manager (AI/Observability)

Location: Dublin, Ireland. Most days are spent in the Dublin office, with occasional remote work; core in-office hours are 10am to 4pm.

What you will do

• Lead a 2-pizza engineering team responsible for developer experience and observability across ElastiCache and MemoryDB.
• Define the vision and multi-year roadmap for AI-native experiences across the AWS Console, Assistant, client libraries, IDEs, MCP servers, coding agents, and AI-native platforms.
• Own end-to-end observability across the console, backend services, and Valkey engine, including CloudWatch metrics, PromQL alarms and dashboards, and command and slow logs.
• Partner with engineers, product managers, UX designers, CloudWatch teams, and the Valkey open-source community to deliver complex frontend, backend, and data-plane capabilities.
• Recruit, develop, motivate, and manage software engineers while setting SMART goals and maintaining an inclusive team culture.
• Participate in a modest on-call rotation approximately once every 1–2 months and drive root-cause fixes.

Requirements

• Experience recruiting, hiring, mentoring or coaching, and managing Software Engineer teams.
• Experience leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services.
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams.
• Knowledge of software engineering best practices across the development life cycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Ability to communicate clearly with users, technical teams, and senior leadership and work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
• Commitment to customer focus, operational excellence, security, observability, and AI-enabled development.

Nice to have

• Experience communicating technical designs, software features, and product strategy to users, technical teams, and senior leadership.
• Experience with JavaScript frameworks such as Angular and React.
