TL;DR
Senior Robotics Software Engineer, Simulation (AI): Building and owning a simulation platform for autonomous off-road vehicles, including vehicle, sensor, and environment models, SIL/HIL frameworks, regression scenarios, and CI evaluation with an accent on sim-to-real fidelity, synthetic data, and deterministic testing. Focus on modeling changing field conditions, reproducing failures from real vehicle logs, integrating the ROS 2 autonomy stack, and measuring whether simulation predicts real-world behavior.

Location: San Jose, CA, United States

Salary: USD 180,000–215,000 per year

Company

hirify.global develops vision-based autonomy, embodied AI, connected robotics platforms, and modular vehicles for demanding off-road field operations.

What you will do

  • Build and maintain simulation environments for orchards, vineyards, bedded crops, uneven terrain, and changing light and weather.
  • Own the simulator interface with the ROS 2 autonomy stack and build production SIL/HIL closed-loop frameworks for perception, planning, and controls.
  • Convert field logs into replayable simulation scenarios, reproduce failures, and maintain a regression library covering real-world edge cases.
  • Create calibrated camera, GNSS/RTK, IMU, and LiDAR models with realistic noise and failure modes, and model vehicle dynamics and terrain interaction across multiple robot form factors.
  • Build automated scenario generation, evaluation metrics, reporting, and CI testing so autonomy changes are checked before deployment to machines.
  • Generate synthetic perception data and collaborate with perception, controls, ML, and platform teams on domain randomization and sim-to-real gaps.

Requirements

  • Strong computer science fundamentals, systems fluency, debugging, testing, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field, plus 5+ years of industry experience in robotics software engineering with a significant focus on simulation.
  • 2+ years building SIL, HIL, or closed-loop evaluation systems used in production.
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ and Python, with the ability to read and debug a large existing codebase.
  • Experience building simulation environments with NVIDIA Isaac Sim, MuJoCo, Gazebo, or a similar platform.
  • Familiarity with physics engines such as PhysX, Bullet, or MuJoCo and a deep understanding of ROS 2.
  • Experience integrating simulation into CI/CD pipelines.
  • A pragmatic engineering approach: choose the simplest model that answers the question and avoid over-engineering.

Nice to have

  • Rust programming experience.
  • Experience in agricultural, construction, or off-road robotics.
  • Experience with digital twins, synthetic data generation, world models, neural reconstruction, or sim-to-real transfer techniques.
  • Familiarity with USD/OpenUSD scene formats.
  • GPU-accelerated rendering or ray tracing for camera simulation.
  • Experience with NVIDIA Jetson or other embedded deployment.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time salaried employment with a hybrid model for selective roles, combining office and home work.
  • Health insurance covering medical, dental, and vision care, plus mental health support and wellness programs.
  • Covered lunch on in-office days.
  • Supportive, collaborative, cross-functional workplace focused on work-life balance and mission-driven robotics innovation.
