TL;DR
Senior Robotics Software Engineer (C++/Python/Robotics): Building motion planning, control, world-modeling, and device-control software for physical robotic manipulators with an accent on kinematics, collision-free trajectory planning, real-time hardware interfaces, and fleet integration. Focus on designing reliable planning systems, validating sim-to-real behavior, and integrating learning-based methods with classical robotics approaches.

Location: San Diego, California, United States; onsite. Employment requires access to export-controlled information and is contingent on being a U.S. person as defined by 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3).

Annual salary: $125,000–$175,000.

Company

hirify.global is a fast-paced robotics technology startup developing software and systems for physical robots.

What you will do

  • Build motion and trajectory planning for patterned, adaptive, sensor-driven pick-and-place tasks and resource-aware multi-robot sequencing.
  • Develop kinematics, reachability, inverse kinematics, collision-free trajectory planning, and validation for robotic manipulators.
  • Contribute to hardware driver software, real-time motion command streaming, sensor interfaces, behaviors, world modeling, and device control.
  • Advance the robotics stack with reinforcement learning, learned planners, simulation, and sim-to-real training alongside classical methods.
  • Integrate planning and control with fleet management and higher-level systems, collaborating with hardware and process engineers on real hardware.
  • Write tests and validation suites, participate in code reviews, and maintain documentation for algorithms, calibration, and system interfaces.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years building robotics software, including end-to-end ownership of motion planning or controls systems.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction beyond immediate responsibilities.
  • Strong modern C++ experience, including C++17/20/23, plus Python.
  • Hands-on experience developing robotics, motion control, or controls software that drives physical hardware.
  • Deep experience with kinematics, reachability, inverse kinematics, trajectory planning, and planning against a robot world model.
  • Calibration experience addressing sim-to-real gaps; familiarity with multithreading, concurrency, and systems-level debugging.
  • Ability to develop and operate software on Windows with Git, plus experience with TDD, unit testing, and/or CI/CD.
  • AI literacy, including use of AI-assisted coding tools with sound judgment regarding code quality and safety.
  • Must be a U.S. person as defined by 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3) because the role requires access to export-controlled information.

Nice to have

  • Startup or fast-paced technology company experience.
  • Learning-based methods or robot simulation, including reinforcement learning, imitation learning, or sim-to-real.
  • SLAM, navigation, ROS, Foxglove, or real-time systems experience.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hands-on work in a fluid startup environment with close collaboration with leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Fidelity 401(k) plan with 4% employer matching.
  • 20 paid time-off days and 13 paid company holidays per year.
  • 9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off.
  • Mentorship, learning, initiative, and opportunities to grow technical competency.
