Senior Applications Engineer (Maritime Autonomy)

Location: United States; on-site, with up to 50% travel including international and multi-week customer engagements

Salary: $130,000–$200,000 per year, plus bonus, benefits, and equity for full-time regular employees.

What you will do

• Deploy with customers on-site to support software integration, development, and on-water testing.
• Develop AI and autonomy applications with the Hivemind enterprise software development kit for maritime missions and platforms.
• Integrate enterprise software with maritime platform controls, sensors, navigation systems, and communications.
• Provide technical support, customer training, demonstrations, conferences, and pre-sales assistance.
• Debug software and API integration issues and collaborate with product engineering on customer feedback and product improvements.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation and training materials.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field.
• 5+ years of industry experience, including 2+ years in integration or applications engineering and 2+ years in a startup environment.
• Strong software engineering background with strong proficiency in modern C++ and intermediate proficiency in Python.
• Experience developing or integrating software for maritime platforms, marine robotics, or autonomous vessel systems.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must be comfortable with frequent customer interaction, on-site work, international travel, and multi-week engagements; candidates who have never programmed in C, C++, or Rust should not apply.

Nice to have

• Defense maritime or marine robotics industry experience.
• Familiarity with maritime navigation, vessel control, collision avoidance, radar, AIS, or sonar.
• Experience supporting autonomous vessel demonstrations or sea trials.
• Experience building and running a small enterprise software applications or solutions engineering team.
• Advanced technical degree, especially in robotics or autonomy-related fields.
