TL;DR
Senior Robotics Engineer (Robot Learning) (robotics/manufacturing): Building and deploying learning-based manipulation, perception, and data systems for automated electrical wire-harness production with an accent on real-robot learning, deformable-object manipulation, and production reliability. Focus on training and evaluating robot policies, collecting and labeling teleoperation and factory data, solving contact-rich assembly challenges, and transferring learned capabilities from research into production cells.
Location: Onsite at the Cypress, California facility, with regular time at the Redondo Beach, California facility.
Salary: $200,000–$260,000 USD.
Company
hirify.global Systems manufactures electrical wire harnesses for major aerospace and defense companies and develops automation for complex manufacturing.
What you will do
Own learned manipulation on the production line, starting with machine tending, including picking, loading, and feeding variable wire and parts.
Develop perception, grasping, learned skills, and failure-analysis workflows and transfer them into production cells.
Build data pipelines using teleoperation demonstrations, station-camera data, production data, labeling, training, and hardware evaluation.
Research dexterous and wire manipulation for small parts, deformable wire, and contact-rich assembly.
Evaluate and post-train open-weight and partner robot foundation models, recommending what to build versus buy.
Set quarterly research plans with deliverables and go/no-go criteria, support partner pilots, and help hire and mentor engineers.
Requirements
Hands-on experience training and deploying learning-based manipulation on real robots, including approaches such as imitation learning, diffusion or transformer policies, reinforcement learning, or robot foundation models; simulation-only experience is insufficient.
Experience with teleoperation or demonstration collection, data pipelines, and evaluation on hardware.
Track record at a robotics research lab, frontier robotics company, or team shipping learned robotic systems, including work led by the candidate.
Experience with contact-rich or deformable-object manipulation, such as cables, insertion, or cloth.
Track record of rapidly answering experimental questions on real hardware.
Strong Python and a deep learning framework such as PyTorch or JAX; comfort with C++ and ROS 2 or similar systems on real robots.
Ability to own a technical area end to end, collaborate with senior engineers, and communicate with technicians, engineers, and leadership.
Master's or PhD in robotics, computer science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or computer engineering, or equivalent research or industry experience.
Must be a U.S. Person as defined under ITAR: U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or eligible to obtain the required authorizations.
Nice to have
Learned skills shipped into a production or commercial setting.
Experience with dexterous hands, tactile sensing, or force-controlled manipulation.
Sim-to-real transfer and simulation tools such as MuJoCo or Isaac Sim.
Publications or open-source work in robot learning.
Wire harness, cable assembly, or other high-mix assembly experience.
Startup or high-growth company experience.
Experience mentoring engineers or building a research team.
Culture & Benefits
Hands-on ownership on a small, mission-driven team developing systems for real production lines.
Medical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability coverage, plus FSA and DSA programs.
20 vacation days and 12 company holidays per year.
401(k), equity participation, up to $100/month gym reimbursement, and $50/month DoorDash credit.
Onsite collaborative facilities with free parking, stocked kitchen, team events, and access to public transit and major freeways.
Hiring process
Applicants with backgrounds spanning this role and the Senior Robotics Engineer, Production or Senior Engineer, Data & Perception roles may apply to any relevant position and explain the overlap.
